Acer campestre (Field Maple) Seeds

Native to Europe, W Asia.
Also known as Hedge Maple it is a nice ornamental tree with an oval crown. It is widely planted in Europe as a street tree and lawn specimen or sheared to make a hedge.
Size: Height 25 to 30 feet, spread 25 to 30 feet.
Scarification: Soak in water for 24 hours.
Germination Instructions
Stratification: Seed requires a warm stratification period for 30 days followed by a cold stratification period at 3° C (37° F) to 5° C (41° F) for 90 to 180 days.
- Place seeds in sandwich bag(s), with a bit of damp sand or vermiculite to keep moist.
- Keep at room temperature for about 30 days. Occasionally lightly spray water to keep seeds and sand moist.
- Place the bag(s) with seeds in refrigerator for about 90 to 180 days.
- After the required time take the seeds out of the refrigerator and sow the seeds in pots 1/4 deep and cover lightly. Water gently so as not to wash away the seeds. Keep soil moist but not wet. Note some seeds may sprout sporadically so don’t give up.
